Bonnievale Winery’s Cabernet Sauvignon has once again garnered prestigious accolades from two prominent wine competitions. Notably, the Bonnievale River Collection Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 achieved Double Platinum recognition at the National Wine Challenge (NWC), earning a coveted spot among the Top 100 wines of the year.
Remarkably, this marks the second consecutive time that the Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon has earned Double Platinum at the NWC. Moreover, the same vintage recently clinched a Gold award in the inaugural Cabernet Sauvignon Challenge, where Bonnievale stood out as the sole winery from its region to secure a position among the Challenge’s distinguished 33 award-winning entries.
Marthinus Rademeyer, Chief Winemaker at Bonnievale Winery, expresses immense pride in these recent accomplishments. He remarks, “These latest awards are a source of great pride for us. They not only reflect our unwavering dedication and enthusiasm for this grape variety but also reaffirm our continuous collaborative pursuit to deliver wines of exceptional quality.”
Globally, the Cabernet Sauvignon variety represents a fiercely competitive category within the realm of fine wines. It frequently symbolizes the zenith of a winery’s offerings, making success in this category a significant benchmark for quality. Through these latest triumphs with Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonnievale once again underscores the remarkable potential of vineyards within the Robertson region to achieve excellence.
The crafting of the Bonnievale Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon involves meticulous selection of vines with a consistent history of delivering high-quality grapes. These vines undergo rigorous viticultural management, with their fruit regularly tested and harvested by hand at the peak of ripeness. A secondary round of selection ensures that only the finest fruit is chosen for the wine.
The winemaking process involves fermentation in small batches, accompanied by a meticulous oak regimen during both fermentation and maturation. The wine then spends around 18 months maturing in barrels, where its character develops and matures.
This unwavering attention to detail has consistently led to a trail of awards across the entire Bonnievale portfolio.
Celebrating its 13th year, the National Wine Challenge (NWC) continues to be a respected institution in the wine industry. Simultaneously, the inaugural Cabernet Challenge, launching this year, has brought together a panel of esteemed judges, including well-known wine connoisseur and commentator Carrie [Surname], to assess and celebrate the finest expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon.
