Brookdale Estate is set to celebrate Old Vine Day on August 1st with a special focus on the newly released 2022 vintage of their Old Vine Chenin Blanc.
As a proud member of South Africa’s Old Vine Project—a collective dedicated to preserving certified heritage vines—Brookdale Estate has consistently demonstrated excellence. At the 2022 Trophy Wine Show, the 2020 vintage of Brookdale Estate Chenin Blanc won Gold, earning a remarkable score of 97/100. This outstanding achievement secured the prestigious Rosa Kruger Trophy for Best Old Vine Wine.
On Old Vine Day, Thursday, August 1, 2024, the Bistro & Tasting Room at Brookdale Estate will offer complimentary tastings of the 2022 Brookdale Old Vine Chenin Blanc. Additionally, guests can purchase a special edition 375ml bottle of the 2019 Brookdale Chenin for R150, available throughout the weekend from August 1st to 4th.
The Old Vine Chenin Blanc from Brookdale Estate is renowned for its complexity and balance, often compared to the classic white wines of Burgundy. This wine boasts a bold and impactful flavour profile, making it an excellent companion for fine dining.
Winemaker Kiara Scott Farmer describes the 2022 vintage as “subtly keyed, with restrained aromatics of pear skin, honeycomb, and golden citrus, along with a hint of pastry cream and toast.” The palate is deep, dense, and concentrated, with a fleshy and generous texture balanced by a stony acidity. Notes of yellow apples, kumquat, and peaches create a harmonious melody, underpinned by a chalky texture that adds depth. The savoury finish recalls the waxy notes from the nose, perfectly complementing the vibrant fruit flavours.
Join us at Brookdale Estate to celebrate Old Vine Day and experience the exceptional quality of our Old Vine Chenin Blanc.
