Stellenbosch, South Africa – Delheim Wine Estate is thrilled to announce the expansion of its highly sought-after mushroom foraging experiences on the Simonsberg Mountain. Due to overwhelming popularity, the unique event will now span two weekends, offering more nature enthusiasts the chance to explore the estate’s pine forests, gather wild mushrooms, and indulge in Delheim’s renowned hospitality.
This year, aspiring and seasoned foragers can mark their calendars for Friday, June 13th and Saturday, June 14th, as well as Friday, July 4th and Saturday, July 5th. These four distinct opportunities invite guests to discover and collect some of the over 20 species of wild mushrooms thriving in Delheim’s forests.
Each day commences with an enlightening introduction to mushroom identification by expert Gary Goldman, accompanied by warming coffee, glühwein, muffins, and rusks. Following this, Goldman will guide attendees on an exciting foraging expedition through the picturesque Delheim woods on the slopes of Stellenbosch’s majestic Simonsberg. Participants are advised to dress for potentially chilly weather, including a rain jacket and sturdy walking/hiking boots or shoes. A basket and a small pocketknife for collecting are also essential. While a diverse range of mushrooms flourish on the estate, the discovery of specific varieties cannot be guaranteed.
The immersive foraging experience culminates in a hearty, curated lunch served in the traditional ambiance of the estate’s historic Vat Cellar. The menu will feature delectable mushroom-themed dishes, perfectly complemented by a selection of Delheim’s exceptional, award-winning wines.
Adding a special touch to this year’s event, Delheim will celebrate a significant milestone: 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the Pinotage grape. As an early pioneer of Pinotage since 1960, Delheim will feature a selection of its older vintage Pinotage wines for tasting alongside other estate offerings, providing a unique oenophilic experience.
To ensure an intimate and enjoyable experience, space is limited to 35 adults and five children (aged 6 to 17) per day. The cost is R1000 per adult and R850 for younger participants.
