Delheim’s Winter Fondue and Jazz: A Winning Combination

If music serves as life’s sustenance, then jazz undoubtedly provides the perfect rhythm to accompany an authentic and hearty traditional cheese fondue. Set within the cozy and distinctive ambiance of a prominent Stellenbosch wine estate, Delheim Estate, nestled majestically on the Simonsberg, is all set to present its highly anticipated series of Jazz & Cheese Fondue events. These gatherings have seamlessly woven themselves into the fabric of the local wine and music scenes, offering an exceptional experience.

In collaboration with the Cape Town Music Academy (CTMA), Delheim Estate curates an eclectic lineup of diverse local jazz talents to complement the indulgence of their delectable cheese fondues. These events, held each Sunday during lunchtime from July 2nd to August 27th, have earned a coveted spot on the calendars of music enthusiasts and wine connoisseurs alike.

Nora Thiel, co-owner of Delheim, attests to the institutional status that the Jazz & Fondue events have attained on the estate. She notes, “The captivating jazz performances curated by the CTMA perfectly harmonize with the spirited and relaxed atmosphere that characterizes our fondue dining experiences.” Fondue, once a household staple in the 1970s, has been given new life since 2010 to align with chilly winter Sundays in the Cape. Coupled with the soul-stirring melodies of eminent jazz artists and an exquisite range of Delheim wines, this event has gained immense popularity. The traditional tasting venue, serving as the backdrop, adds an extra layer of allure to the overall experience.

Luvuyo Kakaza, the Projects Director of the Cape Town Music Academy and a notable figure in South Africa’s jazz scene, highlights how the Delheim Jazz & Fondue events have evolved into a pinnacle of the local jazz calendar. Both the artists and attendees eagerly anticipate these Sunday sessions amidst the winelands.

Kakaza states, “The Western Cape stands as one of the world’s preeminent jazz destinations, celebrated for its outstanding artists and the vibrant musical tapestry it offers.”
