Join Durbanville Wine Valley for an exceptional evening of wine tasting hosted by the esteemed producers of the Durbanville Wine Valley on Friday, August 2nd. The “Taste of Terroir Winter Red Wine Tasting Soirée” will showcase a variety of red wines, spanning multiple vintages and styles, from some of the Cape’s finest vineyards.
Event Highlights
The event will feature wines from award-winning farms, including Bloemendal, Diemersdal, De Grendel, D’Aria, Durbanville Hills, Groot Phesantekraal, Klein Roosboom, Maastricht, Meerendal, and Nitida.
“This event offers a unique opportunity for wine enthusiasts to experience the red wines of the Durbanville region in one place,” says Natasha de Villiers, Durbanville Wine Route Manager. “While our region is renowned for its world-class Sauvignon Blanc, our red wines are equally distinguished.”
As Durbanville approaches its 200th anniversary of wine growing next year, this soirée will highlight the excellence and expertise honed over two centuries.
The Red Wine Tasting Soirée follows the region’s annual Sauvignon Blanc tasting, which has sold out for the past two years.
Celebrating Champion Red Wines
Durbanville wines are regularly recognized and awarded at prestigious local and international competitions. Recently, Durbanville Hills received top honors at the 2024 Trophy Wine Show for its 2022 Collectors Reserve The Promenade Pinotage, securing a spot in the Top 10 Red Wines and Top 10 Best Value Reds. Diemersdal Estate’s 2022 The Journal Pinotage won Gold at the International Wine Challenge.
Last year, Durbanville red wines received high accolades, including awards from Veritas, the Michelangelo International Wine and Spirit Awards, and the Terroir Awards. They also earned five stars from Platter’s South African Wine Guide for Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Red Blends/Cape Bordeaux. Durbanville reds were featured in the Shiraz SA Challenge Top 12.
The Durbanville Advantage
The region’s success is rooted in its ideal terroir and multi-generational expertise. Vineyards north of Cape Town have flourished since 1698, benefiting from diverse soil types, climatic conditions, and mists and oceanic breezes that ensure cool temperatures and promote slow ripening and intense flavour development.
