Leeu Passant, the Franschhoek winery born from the partnership between Analjit Singh and Chris and Andrea Mullineux, has achieved remarkable success in the 2025 Platter’s Guide. The winery’s Wellington Cinsault 2022 was awarded Cinsault of the Year, earning an esteemed 5-star rating, while two additional wines—the CWG Auction Franschhoek Hillside Cabernet Franc 2022 and Franschhoek Sémillon 2022—also received 5-star accolades.
The Platter’s Guide, widely regarded as the most authoritative resource on South African wine, reviewed over 9,000 entries this year, with only 259 wines earning the coveted 5-star status for scores of 95 points or higher.
A Celebration of Excellence in Cape Winemaking
Andrea Mullineux highlighted the significance of the annual Platter’s Guide, describing it as a celebration of South Africa’s thriving wine industry. “The guide showcases the incredible energy, diversity, and excellence of Cape wine,” says Andrea. “To have Leeu Passant’s wines recognised among the best is truly the cherry on top in such a competitive and inspiring landscape.”
Cinsault of the Year: Honouring South Africa’s Viticultural Legacy
The award-winning Leeu Passant Wellington Cinsault 2022 comes from South Africa’s oldest registered red wine vineyard, planted in 1900. These 122-year-old vines, carefully farmed by Leeu Passant since the winery’s founding in 2013, represent a deep commitment to preserving the Cape’s rich viticultural heritage.
“Caring for this historic vineyard is both an honour and a privilege,” says Andrea. “This vineyard not only pays homage to South Africa’s winemaking history but consistently produces fruit of superb quality and character. Winning Platter’s Cinsault of the Year is a testament to our dedication to respecting and showcasing this exceptional site.”
Other 5-Star Achievements: Sémillon and Cabernet Franc
Leeu Passant’s Franschhoek Sémillon 2022, made from a 61-year-old vineyard, and the CWG Auction Franschhoek Hillside Cabernet Franc 2022, grown on the cool, terraced east-facing slopes of Leeu Estates, also received 5-star ratings. Crafted through spontaneous fermentation and minimal intervention, these wines reflect the unique terroirs that define Leeu Passant’s philosophy.
A Commitment to Excellence
Analjit Singh, co-founder of Leeu Passant, expressed his pride in the winery’s consistent recognition. “Our journey with Chris and Andrea has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my life. Leeu Passant honours the rich wine tradition of South Africa, and these accolades inspire us to continue striving for excellence. It’s immensely gratifying to see our wines celebrated on a global stage, reinforcing the prestige of South African wine.”
Leeu Passant’s achievements in the 2025 Platter’s Guide reaffirm its status as a leader in Cape winemaking, demonstrating a deep respect for the region’s history while pushing the boundaries of quality and innovation.
